Ever had a case of the Mondays? It seems like I do at least once a week. For some, Monday means hauling your backside to a job that you hate. For others, it means you have a blow out on your way to work and you can’t be late again. In my case, my son is sick for the second day in a row. Plus, our insurance will not resolve a bill that it forgot to pay when our son was born nearly 2 years ago. More on that later.
You could have a birthday, get a promotion, or find trunk full of treasure on Monday and something will feel wrong about the whole situation. Yesterday afternoon (Monday BTW), we were going to take a bike ride down a ol’ dirt road. We have a covered trailer for our son that I pull with my bike. We thought it would be good to get him outside for a bit plus he was begging to go for a ride. Wouldn’t you know it. Before we could make it bad to the house on maybe a mile and half ride, BOOM! My front bike tire goes flat. It had already been a day filled with struggles and burdens, now this.
You have to just laugh in situations like this. I’m not a crier and that would make it worse. Have you ever heard the expression, “You should never quit your job on Monday”? Its true. Mondays stink for the most part. Mine was even worse this week because my heart stopped five or six times while watching my beloved Seahawks play Sunday Night. A tie was a win for us. I have a tendency to go so hard on the weekends, so much so that I’m exhausted come Monday.
I am reminded of a verse Jesus spoke in the gospel of Matthew 11:28, “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” It is impossible to read that without a soothing tone and feeling better by the end. Jesus offers us a genuine life battery charge. Basically, He is saying that He is the cure for the Mondays. When you come to Him and bring your troubles; He wants to help you carry them. He wants to make your load feel less overwhelming and so you realize how much He cares for you and loves you.
And after the Monday I just had. It sure does brighten my Tuesday!
Grace and Peace to you!
